León Helm und Kai Hunter verbindet vieles: Die beiden Runningbacks sind in Saarbrücken geboren, haben zusammen bei den Saarland Hurricanes und der Frankfurt Galaxy gespielt und haben nun beide ihre Verträge für die kommende Saison 2025 bei der Stuttgart Surge verlängert. Auch in ihrer Motivation dafür sind sich beide einig. Kai Hunter ist bereits seit 2023 bei der Stuttgart Surge tätig und blickt zuversichtlich auf die kommende Spielzeit: „Ich kann es kaum erwarten, das zu Ende zu bringen, was wir in meinen ersten beiden Saisons in Stuttgart begonnen haben: 2025 die Meisterschaft zu gewinnen!“ León Helm, der ein Jahr später, nämlich 2024 zur Surge stieß, fasst den Grund, warum er weiterhin für die Surge spielt, kompakt, aber inhaltlich identisch zusammen: „Unfinished Business.“
Der 29-jährige León Helm agiert meist als Fullback und ebnet den Runningsbacks einen Weg durch die gegnerische Defensive Line. Er war in den Spielzeiten 2022 und 2023 in insgesamt 23 Spielen für die Frankfurt Galaxy im Einsatz, erzielte insgesamt 8 Touchdowns und schaffte in beiden Saisons den Sprung in das ELF Second All Star Team. Letzte Saison absolvierte er neun Spiele für die Stuttgarter. Vor seinem Engagement in der European League of Football war Helm von 2006 bis 2021 bei den Saarland Hurricanes. Als Teilnehmer an den World Games 2017 gewann Helm mit der deutschen Nationalmannschaft die Silbermedaille.
Kai Hunter stand bisher 25 Mal für die Surge auf dem Platz und erzielte dabei 8 Touchdowns. Der 26-jährige Runningback kam 2023 von der Frankfurt Galaxy, für die er in der Saison 2022 in 10 Spielen für einen Touchdown sorgte. In den Diensten der Saarland Hurricanes war Hunter von 2010 bis 2021. Er ist auf und neben dem Platz ein wichtiges Bindeglied innerhalb der Mannschaft: „Ich werde auf und neben dem Spielfeld alles geben, um der bestmögliche Mannschaftskamerad zu sein.“
Saarland continue to power the running game: contract extensions for León Helm and Kai Hunter
León Helm and Kai Hunter have a lot in common: the two running backs were born in Saarbrücken, played together for the Saarland Hurricanes and the Frankfurt Galaxy, and have now both extended their contracts with the Stuttgart Surge through to the 2025 season. Their motivations for doing so are similar. Kai Hunter has been with the Surge since 2023 and is confident about the upcoming season: "I can't wait to finish what we started my first two seasons in Stuttgart. 2025 Championship Bound!” Leon Helm, who joined the Surge a year later in 2024, sums up his reason for continuing to play for the Surge in a compact but identical way: "Unfinished business."

Last season, he made nine appearances for Stuttgart. Prior to joining the European League of Football, Helm played for the Saarland Hurricanes from 2006 to 2021. As a participant in the 2017 World Games, Helm won a silver medal with the German national team.
